Elif Ozcan Composition Research Paper 01/12/2018 Emily Dickinson During the 19th century American poetry had a lot of great leaders. One of them was, Emily D?ckinson. She was known for her usage of forms in her poets. Her early life had influenced her poets a lot as well as her education. She started her poets when she was in her young ages. As she grew up her poetry got better, and she started to send her poets outside of her family members. Also with her work, Emily Dickinson shows the world how her disorders influenced her works in poetry. Unfortunately her poets did not discovered until she died. Emily Dickinson came to world in a good, and well-known family. Emily Elizabeth Dickinson, was born on December 10,1830, in Amherst, Massachusetts. She was the second of the three children. Her grandfather, Samuel Dickinson, was the founder of Amherst College. Her father, Edward Dickinson, was a lawyer, and served as a treasurer of the college. Also her father, was a state lag?stlator for a year. Emily Dickinson’s mother, Emily Norcross Dickinson, was a hardworking housekeeper. Emily and Edward Dickinson had a three children; William Austin, Emily, and Lavinia. As a parents they loved their childrens, but austere in the same time (……). As they grew up, Emily became closer with her brother, Austin. Emily Dickinson was educated at Amherst Academy, for seven years. She recognized for her abilities in composition. She was also good at Latin and Science classes. Especially the botany class inspired her the most. Then she attended the Mount Holyoke Female Seminary for a year. Mount Holyoke’s strict rule, religious practices, and her homesickness did not help her during the school year. Her departure from the academy was in 1848, with unknown reason. One of the reasons might be, Emily was seen as frail emotional state, caused by her parents and others. After academy, Dickinson never attended to any other schools, or particular church (……..). Emily Dickinson, started writing, when she was a teenager. Emily Dickinson was into Calvinism. Aslo she was the only family member that did not attend Amherst’s First Congregational Church (…). In her early life, she influenced by Leonard Humphrey, Benjamin Franklin Newton, as well as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, John Keast, and Walt Whitman (poet……..). These influences lead her way to more symbolic understanding of religious truth. Also this influences helped her to shape her poets. With writing, Emily Dickinson earned two close friends. Charles Wadsworth, and Susan Gilbert. Charles Wadsworth was a minister, and he lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1856, Susan Gilbert married with William Austin Dickinson (…). Except her brother, neither of the two girls, Emily and Lavinia, did not get married. Many sources claim that Emily Dickinson fell in love with Charles Wadsworth. Poet remembered him in many ways, such as My Philadelphia”, “my dearest earth friend”, and more (……..). As Emily grew older, her writings got better. Emily Dickinson’s poems from 1850s draw a contrast between the world as normal and other alternatives with imaginatively. All her poems were sent to her friends, and her work was turning into visionary fancies. She inspired from a book of Reveries of a Bachelor and Book of the Heart by Ik. Marvel (……). Until her older age Dickinson’s work was in letter form. Emily Dickinson’s friendships with her letter friends was sad. Because most of the time Dickinson left with sense of solitude, fear of abandonment, and more. When her mother got ill, lasted from 1855 to 1859, Emily and her sister give more from themselves to their mother. Around that time, they also had a financial problems. After all Emily D?ckinson began making clean copies of her poets. Unfortunately, Dickinson’s mental health was not getting good, and it started to showing in her poetry. Emily Dickinson, started writing about “self-reliance, imperviousness, personal triumph, and hard-won liberty” Between 1864 and 1865 she started to complain about sensitivity to light. She diagnosed with exotropia and anterior uveitis (……..).
