Learning is a lifelong journey. Critical reflection on learning experience is one of the important components of learning process. It can let learner understand their learning needs and how to plan their learning strategy in a more effective way. Moreover, adult learning theory will also be discussed to enhance the understanding of the individual lifelong learning journey.

l  To perform a good assignment, avoid plagiarism is the most important, we should have cited the sources and give quotation in our assignment as:

l Analysis – identify one aspect of the marking criteria and explore this in your studying. This will need referencing

l   We possess a group discussion; we are thinking about that the past assignment can be clarity of construction, attention to purpose, with a good character and evidence of scanning, knowledge of theory or not? It’s good for me to reflect when we prepare the further assignment what we should focus on, for instance, how to manage the literature and write a good referencing to avoid plagiarism, and perform critical analysis

l Evaluation – what was good and not so good about taking part




l   At the beginning of the workshop, the lecturer told us to check the past assignment, it is so anxious for me, we are students only, and how can we judge the assignment? After that we sustain a group discussion, we question that is it the past assignment can be achieved marking criteria or not? I feel amused and accomplishment during the discussion, because all of our members can express their opinions, we can summarize and discussed in deep in every marking criteria point, then agree on the marks for this paper. At the end of the workshop, we are so excited to show the scores to the classmate. There are differing greatly among other groups, it is 45 – 60, for the lecturer marks is 35 – 64.

l Feelings – what did you think about taking part (anxious, excited, happy etc)


l   The lecturer in Study Skills for Health Care Professionals, asking us to congregate in a group of six and then she hands us a past assignment which topic is about Health Promotion. She stated we should enforce the learning outcomes and the level 6 marking criteria to stick the assignment, and we demand to score each section of the marking criteria grid, should decide and agree on the scores in our group.

The Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle is the most prevalent model of reflection. It is useful in a real situation, also can be adapted to mirror Kolb’s (1984) learning cycle. It’s divided into six stages of reflection.

1.      Model of reflection


Reflective learning is such a hot topic learning tool in a model of learning. Reflection assists us to learn from experience, creates and clarifies that what we need to think and change. It lets students develop critical thinking skills, have more self-review, peer critique and improve their performance by analysing their experience. Thus, it is a really useful study skills for us to prepare the future assignments.

The definition of reflection is “… Reviewing experience from practice that it may be described, analysed, evaluated and consequently used to inform and change future practice.” (Bulman, 2008, p. 4).



Being a higher level student should have an open mind of her action and theories, to recognize their viewing of situations and solutions. In this paper, I will use the reflection model of Gibb’s (1988) to show you what I have learned during the marking workshop which is the most useful for me to prepare the coming assignment in my future study.


Nowadays, people have higher expectations of their health care system than ever before. Nurses need to acquire updated knowledge and nursing skills in order to meet the demands of the continuously changing and advancing health care system. Continuous learning is one of the essential tools for nurses to maintain their competence in the career.
